When Should I Schedule an Obstetrics Appointment?

Many people think that an appointment with an obstetrician is only scheduled for regular checkups once you know you’re pregnant, but that is a common misconception. At Harbison Covenant Healthcare, we provide patients with a variety of personal health services and family planning resources. Some of the reasons to visit the obstetrician include:

  • Preconception education
  • Ultrasound evaluation
  • Fertility issues
  • Labor management planning
  • Postpartum care

Learn More About Obstetrics

Many women schedule their first obstetrics appointment around 7-8 weeks after their last menstrual cycle. If you’re seeking help for family planning, fertility consultations, or other women’s health needs, contact our office today to make your appointment.

The first ultrasound may be performed around 7 to 8 weeks after your last menstrual cycle. This can help provide an approximate due date, although some prefer the 12 to 14 week ultrasound for greater accuracy. Book your appointment and consult with a certified obstetrician for a personalized recommendation on when you should have your first ultrasound.

You’ll see an obstetrician for the first time around 7 or 8 weeks after your last menstrual cycle. Then, we will make necessary appointments on a monthly, biweekly, and weekly basis as you progress through trimesters and get closer to your due date.

We will also schedule a postpartum obstetrics appointment around 6 weeks after the birth of your baby to monitor your health, your baby’s health, and the potential development of any complications. You can find out more about our prenatal care here.
